In the third heat of the ‘Last Choir Singing’ Competition held at Westholme School on Tuesday 15 March, judges had some tough choices to make.

Heat Three Regional Winner

The bar was raised with six schools battling it out for the coveted title of a ‘Regional Heat Winner’. Making it through to the final was winning school St Mary’s RC Primary School, Langho, who gave an amazing performance of ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight’. They will receive an award of £250 to buy musical equipment for their school and will perform in the Grand Final at St George’s Hall, Blackburn on 17 June 2016.

Heat Three Regional Runner-Up

Coming a close second and taking the ‘runner-up’ title and also going through to the final was Padiham St Leonard’s C of E Primary School. ‘Most Artistic’ award went to St Andrews CE Primary School (Oswaldwistle) who took to the stage with a show stopping performance of Jessie J’s ‘Flashlight’.

Croston Theatre at Westholme School broke into applause as Duncan Heather (acclaimed international vocalist) made the announcement to over 500 people.

St Mary’s choir consists of 40 vocalists and is led by Sara Jackson, who has been working with the choir since September 2015.

After receiving the award, Elizabeth Stevens, Head Teacher at St Mary’s, Langho, said: “We are stunned to have won, all the schools taking part put on excellent performances. We are so proud of our children and will be practising hard now in preparation for the Final.”

Competition judge, Susan Eames said: “We really couldn’t decide, the bar has definitely been raised which makes it all more exciting for our fourth heat. The schools should be exceptionally proud of their young choristers.”
