Classical crossover soprano, Joanne Dennis, will be performing live at the Final of the Last Choir Singing Competition in Blackburn on Friday 16 June.
Joanne Dennis is a trained classical and opera singer who has worked as a professional vocalist for the past 10 years. She performs opera classics right through to pop repertoire. Joanne, who trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music, has previously won ‘Musical Theatre Singer of the Year’ and has worked with the BBC National, performing with internationally acclaimed conductors and orchestras across the UK. Recently she added performing the National Anthem at the 2015 Rugby World Cup 2015, to her list of achievements.
Joanne is thrilled to be headlining the Last Choir Singing Final and said: “I’m delighted to be singing at the Last Choir Singing Final. It is always exciting to see young singers take to the stage and experience a performance that will stay with them forever. To be part of this event is wonderful.”
Schools in the Final
Schools from all four corners of Lancashire entered the competition. Thousands of children took part in regional heats throughout March. Each of the winning schools are now working hard towards the final and are extremely proud to have been named heat winners.
Each finalist will perform a song of their choice and a set song, which has been chosen as a result of the ‘Last Choir Song Contest’ which took place late last year. Jane Smith’s song ‘We Will Remember’ was the winning song and Jane will be there on the evening to listen to the performances.
True Bearing Chartered Financial Planners based in Euxton, Chorley created, organise and sponsor the Last Choir Competition.
George Critchley, Chairman of the firm said: “It has always been my ambition to do something like this. This is our third year of producing Last Choir Singing, it is a great opportunity for budding young singers to perform in front of a large audience. Having someone as talented as Joanne join the Final is truly amazing and I’m sure she’ll be an inspiration for all our young performers.”
