The winner of the Last Choir Singing ‘2016 Song-Writing Contest’, Ike Rann, has had a huge success since penning the winning song.

True Bearing Chartered Financial Planners created and organised the contest as part of their Choir Competition for Lancashire junior schools. The choir finalists sang the winning song as a set performance at the Last Choir Singing County Final, at King George’s Hall in Blackburn on 17 June 2016.

Ike, who originates from Estonia, entered the song writing contest with his song ‘Genius’ and was overwhelmed when he won. He said: “Winning the Last Choir Singing Song Writing Contest has been an amazing experience. When I heard the children singing my song at the Final of the competition, it was hard to stop myself from feeling very emotional. It was quite a challenge to stay calm and collected while judging, especially with an audience of 1,500. It was wonderful to listen to 400 amazingly talented children sing my song in 10 different versions – everyone adding their own flavour through arrangements and choreography. I was so honoured, I tried to hold back tears during the show, but failed to do so!”

After the victory in Lancashire, the singer-songwriter’s career has really taken off, and not just across the county, but globally!  He has been collaborating with some of the industry’s top movers and shakers, has recently worked with record producer Simon Britton, and travelled and performed in fourteen other countries.

Ike met Simon Britton (who has worked with artists such as Michael Jackson, Kool & The Gang, Eminem, Sting) following a performance at the Crescent Theatre, Birmingham. He was overwhelmed with Simon’s kind words. “I was impressed by a real confident and polished performance, which really stood out that night. On the guitar, he’s accomplished and solid with a great sense of rhythm. Vocally, he’s strong and powerful with a wide dynamic range,” said Simon.

Ike is currently based in Stockholm, working with Swedish writers and producers and putting the final touches to his upcoming album. One of the songs is a collaboration with Simon.

Ike has just released his song’ Scarf on a Train’, which he has co-written with Swedish songwriter, Martin Andersson Carlén.

Ike’s dream is to tour with his band, which is getting closer to becoming a reality.  Ike said: “All of this is just a dream come true. I would like to thank the Last Choir Competition, True Bearing Chartered Financial Planners, BBC Radio Lancashire, as well as all of my friends and supporters – MyFitness, Estonian Authors Union – for helping me to realise what I love doing and help me to pursue my musical dreams. I couldn’t wish for more.”
